Addiction to Porn, Masturbation etc.,

How to deal with Porn Addiction and other sexual addictions. cafecounsel.com

Do you feel like you’re addicted to porn?

Do you feel a change in your sex life?

Do you feel you masturbate in excess?

Here’s why there’s quite a probability that you’re choosing a rather harmful and dangerous lifestyle for yourself.

Socially – it is acceptable, as well as encouraged for people to admit addictions like alcohol, drugs, eating, work, fetishes, promiscuity, phone sex, etc. But the person addicted to masturbation is shunned. In fact, in most cases s/he will be told, “You’re not addicted. Masturbation is just another form of sex. Don’t worry about it.” This is a hoax, a myth.

Masturbation

Masturbation refers to a stimulation of the genitals with the hand for sexual pleasure. Just as eating starts off as a natural experience but can be an addiction, similarly, masturbation – like any other experience – can become addictive.

It affects you mentally as well as physically, here’s how –

(1) Dissatisfaction – the more a person masturbates, the more dissatisfied they feel.

(2) It causes Fatigue & Tiredness.

(3) Loss of Sex Drive.

(4) Loss of Memory and a haywire of emotions.

(5) Excessive of irrelevant feelings like loneliness, shyness and a desire for isolation.

(6) Loss of Motivation

Pornography or Porn

Pornography is a printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement.

So, how is this harmful?

(1) Excessive viewing of porn intrudes with your normal and daily routines, behaviour and responsibilities.

(2) Watching porn leads to excessive and aggressive masturbation.

(3) It also leads to sexual dysfunctions like premature ejaculations or impotence.

(4) Affects your sex life a lot more than you think. You tend to be less aroused by your partner and the relationship you share with your partner can take a major turn from being romantic to aggressive, dominating or emotionally disconnecting.

(5) You take it as an escape mechanism to alter your mood from anxiety/depression or a poor impulse control.

How do you even get addicted? This can be explained with the help of a theory called the “operant conditioning” which states a certain behavior where watching porn is rewarded and makes you do it again & again. And so, problem arises when seeking of sexual pleasure becomes impulsive, excessive and aggressive, also comes at the expense of other valued behaviors.

It is very important to seek guidance and treatment if you feel you are struggling with an addiction to porn or sex.

The benefits and golden realities of self-regulation, emotional agility, self-control & maintaining a fulfilling relationship are what people aren’t made aware of these days. Children undergoing growth during puberty and so on are becoming addicted to porn as time passes by. And so as they tend to feel satisfied or relieved with this choice of lifestyle, it gets established in the brains and makes it impossible to make a stop.
